340 || Jennifer Garner’s Role In “Miracles From Heaven” Led Her Back To Church

Actress Jennifer Garner’s faith was renewed by her role in “Miracles From Heaven,” a new movie based on the true story of the Beam family whose faith delivered them through illness and trials. So much so that Jennifer decided it was time to start taking her family to church.

Jennifer Garner played Christy Beam, one of the main characters in “Miracles From Heaven,” the mother of a daughter whose illness and near-death experience brought the Beam family to a new understanding of faith. Jennifer, whose marriage to Batman actor Ben Affleck is unstable at best, was deeply moved by her role.

“I fell so in love with this family, I fell so in love with their love for each other. I fell so in love with their faith,” Jennifer told a Sunday audience at Bishop T.D. Jakes‘ church, The Potter’s House, in Dallas, Texas.

Jennifer Garner Goes Back To Church

But it wasn’t just a nice, inspiring, warm-fuzzy experience Jennifer Garner gleaned from her work on “Miracles From Heaven.” She left movie production with a renewed outlook on life, faith and church.

Although Jennifer grew up going to church, upon returning to Los Angeles after making the movie, she realized faith isn’t really part of the cultural conversation.  But it certainly was for her while working on “Miracles From Heaven.” And it soon became part of their family conversation, too. As she told her kids about “Miracles From Heaven,” she realized they were “looking for the structure of church every Sunday,” Garner said on Good Morning Texas earlier this week.

So the next Sunday, Jennifer Garner and her kids went to church.

“That decision was a direct gift from this movie and for that I’m very grateful,” Garner said at a Q&A with Bishop T.D. Jakes (above).

“Miracles From Heaven” and The Power Of Story

In a Q&A with Bishop Jakes, Jennifer makes an interesting observation about the power of story. She said “Miracles from Heaven” is bridging the gap between faith and real life. The movie is about an average American family whose heartbreaking story was navigated with the help of their faith.

“But it’s not a movie that is telling you to have faith, “said Jennifer Garner. “it’s just lifting up people of faith.”

Sound familiar? That’s what Shattered Magazine is all about. We believe in the power of story, so we tell stories about all kinds of people and all kinds of experiences. But they all point to Jesus, and to the greatest story ever told, the Gospel. We want to leave the harsh preaching behind and instead show how Jesus makes a real, tangible difference in our lives. Our goal is to break down barriers that keep us from Him through real, true stories.

“Miracles From Heaven” doesn’t come out until March 18th, but we’re pretty excited about the impact its story is already making through Jennifer Garner. And we can’t wait to see the movie of Christy Beam and her family—we’re always up for a good story!
